Why LPI Certification?
If you are an employer, IT service provider or an enterprise-level business you want to be assured that your IT professionals have the right skills and knowledge for today's technology challenges. You also want to ensure your customers, suppliers and other partners that your IT personnel are second to none. These kinds of personnel choices can be difficult but if you are looking for an IT certification for your people that is indicative of the growing innovation of Linux and Open Source technology--look to the Linux Professional Institute. We've been certifying Linux professionals for close to ten years with a solid world respected vendor-neutral program.
Consider the following aspects of Linux Professional Institute Certification:
RELEVANCE:
• #1 Linux certification worldwide and growing: check out the numbers--see our announcements on our delivery of 150,000 exams worldwide (Note: we are now at 180,000 exams worldwide)
• Program framework created from industry needs: LPI constantly reaches out to industry IT leaders to further refine and develop our program. We want their input so as to ensure the highest relevance and transparency. Want to see who some of these people are? Check out our sponsors and those of some of our affiliates LPI-Japan and LPI-Central Europe.
• Professional “Job Task Analysis”: we don't test to a particular brand or distribution of software. We test to the job. What skills are needed to be a Linux professional. For more information see "Job Task Analyis".
CREDIBILITY:
• Designed by professionals for professionals: LPI takes great pride in that our program is developed with the assistance of a world wide network of "volunteer" professionals. They participate in our program because they want to see the highest standards of excellence continue in our definition of the Linux professional. You can see them working and collaborating on our twiki and on their mailing list.
• Internationalization through regional involvement: our network of affiliates around the world is growing. These are our "leaders" in their respective regions.
• Endorsed by global leaders in Open Source: again look at some of our sponsors or see what they've said about us before.
• Recognized and accredited psychometric processes: the first IT organization to do so.
VALUE:
• A global standard in Linux professionalism: from our former work with the Free Standards Group to our present involvement with the Information Technology Certification Council to our acceptance with other industry certification programs our LPIC-1 program is rapidly gaining prominence as the entry-level certification of its kind.
• Proven demonstration of knowledge and skills for customers and employers: take a look at the exam objectives--we publish as much information as possible on our certification program: no guesswork involved--you know what our program is about and so do our exam candidates.
• Benchmarks for HR recruitment/promotion: With three successive levels of Linux certification, and new initiatives in other industry certifications, personnel departments can plan life-long learning programs for their employees and ensure the right person gets the right job.
• Access to global network of professionals: Do you need an IT professional who has a range of technical skills in Linux and Open Source software? Check out our OSPREY program.

CEO Corner
(Notes from Jim Lacey, President and CEO of the Linux Professional Institute)
Thinking About the Future: Earlier this year I had the opportunity of attending the CompTIA Colloquium in Arizona. The symposium brings together industry, academic and government ICT education executives and others involved in the future of global technology learning. Among the many valuable presentations that I saw there was one that was particularly thought-provoking. For those of you interested in the future of technology education and the challenges of today's youth I invite you to look at this excellent video available on YouTube: A Vision of Students Today

| In the Press: This past year I had the opportunity to talk to James Gray of the Linux Journal on Linux certification and Mark Gallagher of SearchEnterpriseLinux on the growing importance of Vendor-Neutral Certification. I invite your feedback and comments. You may also want to look at Sean Michael Keller's impromtu interview with me at last year's IT360 event in Canada.
