2025 Open Source Professionals Job Survey Report Available Now

Toronto, 2025-04-10 — Linux Professional Institute (LPI), in partnership with Open Source JobHub (OSJH), released the 2025 Open Source Professionals Job Survey Report today. This report summarizes findings from their second collaborative survey on open source professionals.

Based on responses from admins, developers, and non-technical professionals, the report offers valuable insights into what motivates individuals who work with open source.

Respondents care most about professional fulfillment, which can be associated with exciting projects, networking opportunities, or a sense of accomplishment, when choosing a job. Opportunities for employer-provided training and certification were also important to the survey respondents. Additionally, a large number of respondents believe artificial intelligence (AI) will have a “substantial” or “somewhat” positive impact on their role in the near future.

This report details other findings from the survey and provides insights for both job seekers and hiring managers aiming to attract and retain open source professionals. The full report can be downloaded under https://www.lpi.org/2025-open-source-professionals-job-survey-report/

“At Linux Professional Institute, our mission is to promote the use of open source by supporting the people who work with it. As this report provides valuable insights from open source professionals, it will help employers understand what our community members want from their jobs and work environments,” says G. Matthew Rice, Executive Director of Linux Professional Institute.

“This report offers a unique view into what open source professionals are looking for in their job roles,” says Brian Osborn, Founder of OSJH, and CEO and Publisher at Linux New Media. “Understanding the perspective of these admins, developers, and non-tech pros is key to finding and retaining open source talent.”
