Since I began my journey with Linux and open-source software, I have always seen LPI as a fundamental pillar in shaping IT professionals. My involvement with Linux certifications started more than two decades ago when I published my book regarding Linux Certification, and over the years, I have witnessed firsthand the impact that a well-structured certification can have on a professional’s career. Joining the LPI Board was an opportunity to contribute directly to the evolution of this ecosystem and ensure that the certification remains accessible, relevant, and aligned with real market needs.
My main goal on the Board is to expand the reach and relevance of LPI certifications, ensuring that more professionals around the world have access to high-quality certifications that truly boost their careers. I want to further strengthen the link between the open-source community and the job market, making LPI an even greater reference in Linux certifications and open-source technologies.
Being an LPI Board Member is both challenging and rewarding. It involves making strategic decisions that affect thousands of professionals worldwide, ensuring that our certifications reflect the latest trends in technology. The role requires a balance between strategic vision and deep technical understanding. Additionally, working with a global team of experts and open-source enthusiasts makes the experience even more enriching.
Board Members play a key role in shaping the direction of the organization. We can influence everything from the creation of new exams to global educational initiatives. The ability to shape LPI’s direction means we have a direct impact on how open source knowledge is distributed and recognized in the professional world.
The time commitment varies, but being a Board Member requires dedication. We hold regular meetings and actively contribute to strategic discussions as well as new initiatives. In my case, as Chair of the Board, the responsibility is even greater, as I am also directly involved in governance processes and in connecting LPI with the community.
If you believe in the power of open source and want to make an impact on how IT knowledge is structured globally, the LPI Board is a great place to be. It’s a unique opportunity to contribute to the evolution of Linux and other certifications and to take part in strategic decisions that shape the future of technology education.
An ideal candidate for the LPI Board should have a strong commitment to open source software and education, experience with Linux and open source technologies, and a strategic vision concerning the impact of certifications. Additionally, they should be willing to collaborate with a variety of professionals, from educators to leaders of major companies.
Being a Board Member is not just a title — it’s a real responsibility. The decisions we make have a direct impact on the community and the professionals who rely on these certifications to advance their careers. It is also a unique opportunity to be part of a global network of experts and contribute to something larger than any individual.
