Hosted by Itaipu Binacional and the Itaipu Technological Park (PTI), the conference welcomes a diverse audience, ranging from community members to government representatives. «So long and thanks for all the fish»: as Jon ‘maddog’ Hall prepares to bid adieu to his role as the Board Chair of the Linux Professional Institute, a position he’s honorably held since 2015, he reflects on an extraordinary fifty-year career in computing. ‘maddog’ has been – and still is! – a cornerstone in the world of Free and Open Source Software, Hardware, and Culture.
His relationship with Latinoware spans 20 years, and his engagement with Latin America goes back to 1994. Each year, despite the challenges of age and travel, maddog has committed to sharing his extensive knowledge and inspiring a new generation of programmers. This keynote will offer a retrospective of invaluable lessons he has gleaned over the years, and why he believes everyone should embrace a life enriched by Free and Open Source ethics and practices.
At 73, his journeys may have become physically demanding, but his spirit remains unquenchable. As he steps back from his official capacities, he takes this moment to thank the Latinoware community and the people of Latin America, who have welcomed him into their countries, families, and hearts. This talk serves as both a tribute to his lifetime of contributions and a call to action for future pioneers in the realm of open source and beyond.
