Linux Professional Institute announces a 5 year plan to improve support to Japanese certification holders

The LPI Japan Development Plan commits to a new operational centre and the delivery of more programs and services to benefit open source professionals

(Madrid, Spain and Tokyo, Japan: June 7th 2018) The Linux Professional Institute (LPI), the world’s premier Linux certification organization (https://www.lpi.org/ja), today announced a “Japan Development Plan” representing a ¥325 million yen commitment to certification holders in Japan.

“Open Source has become mainstream, which has created even greater demand for Open Source Professionals. “Our certification holders are expected to deliver an increasingly diverse set of services to a global market,” said G. Matthew Rice, Canada, Executive Director of LPI. Rice adds: “our certification development team engages subject matter experts from all over the world to ensure a truly global certification which reflects the realities of the job. We have always ensured Japan has been represented in this process, but felt it was time to increase our investment in programs and services for Japanese candidates and certification holders. This is a reflection of our commitment to ensure that the highest possible global standard of professionals will be available to employers not only in Japan, but in the world.”

“To stay current with the demands of work in Information Technology, LPI maintains one of the most frequent republishing schedules in the industry,” said Fabian Thorns, Director of Certification Development, Germany. Thorns continues, “LPI exams are legitimized by the involvement of the global LPI community, which includes numerous alumni in Japan. We are currently receiving feedback on the popular LPIC-1 Linux certification which is undergoing a major update to version 5 this summer. A number of free beta tests, delivered for the first time in Japanese, will be held in Tokyo at the beginning of July. We invite system administrators currently working in Japan to participate in the exam development process by taking these free LPIC-1 beta exams.”

To register to take the exams and for more information visit our website here (https://www.lpi.org/articles/ja/earn-your-lpic-1-linux-administrator-certification-free) or contact LPI Customer Service in Japan at info-ja@lpi.org.

Part of the Japan Development Plan will include programs and services that will enable our certification holders to help determine the organization’s future direction. For more information see www.lpi.org/ja/member.

To achieve this goal, LPI is pleased to announce the appointment of Kenji Ito as the Director of Communications in Japan. He brings a wealth of experience in IT marketing and sales including  large Open Source companies, like EnterpriseDB. “We prepared a questionnaire which will help us better understand the needs of our LPI certification holders and will help determine the future benefits for members of the Linux Professional Institute.” Ito says.

I would like to invite LPI certification holders in Japan to participate in a short survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LX2FQ83) “We will reflect the results of the survey in the plan” Ito said. In addition, he continued, “We will also be seeking input from Japan’s own social media.”

G. Matthew Rice made the announcement from OpenExpo Europe 18 (https://openexpoeurope.com) in Madrid, Spain. OpenExpo Europe Is a large professional Fair and Congress about Open Source, Free Software and Open World Economy (Open Data and Open Innovation) in Europe.
