LPI and OSI Unite to Strengthen the Linux and Open Source Software Ecosystem

LPI and OSI Unite to Professionalize the Global Linux and Open Source Ecosystem

Toronto, 09-19-2024 – In a landmark meeting at the OSPOs for Good event at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, the Open Source Initiative (OSI) and the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) confirmed a strategic alliance aimed at strengthening Linux and Open Source communities by nurturing the growth of more highly skilled professionals. This initiative addresses the growing demand for employability from both public and private organizations worldwide.

In addition to creating the Open Source Definition and certifying Open Source licenses to ensure they meet the requirements of Open Source software, OSI carries out many educational and outreach efforts to spread Open Source principles.

In the agreement, LPI and OSI will collaborate on technical education projects that increase professional growth in the areas of Linux and Open Source technologies.

LPI’s professional certification and education programs will be enhanced by OSI, both by encouraging members of the public to get these certifications and by participating in development and maintenance of these programs.

On a financial level, those served by LPI and OSI will benefit by receiving discounts and exclusive opportunities.

More generally, the organizations will collaborate on initiatives that strengthen the Linux and Open Source software ecosystem.

“This partnership reaffirms the commitment of LPI and OSI to enhance the adoption of Linux and Open Source technology in the digital transformation of organizations. These technologies are renowned for their efficiency, robustness, security, scalability, and seamless integration with various IT solutions.

Prepare for many exciting developments, as this is just the beginning.”—Hernán Pachas, Global Head of Partnership at LPI.

“The global Open Source movement has generated immeasurable economic value, yet the movement has never been in greater need of educated professionals to drive the next leap forward in Open Source understanding, innovation, and adoption. OSI exists to both promote the Open Source Definition and to encourage the growth of Open Source communities around the world. This partnership with LPI is one in a series of initiatives that will increase accessibility to the certifications and community participation that Open Source needs to thrive.”—Stefano Maffulli, Executive Director at OSI.

“It is our mission to promote the use of open source by supporting the people who work with it. A closer relationship with OSI makes a valuable contribution to this effort. We are excited to open up new opportunities for people around the world – personally, professionally, and in their communities.”—G. Matthew Rice, Executive Director at LPI.
