Linux Day Italia 2026: LPI Partner; Discount, Talks
  • Saturday, 24 October 2026
  • Multiple venues across Italy

Linux Professional Institute (LPI) is proud to serve as Media Partner for Linux Day Italia 2026, the largest Italian event dedicated to free software, open culture, and sharing.

Organised since 2001 by the Italian Linux Society (ILS), Linux Day is a decentralised network of events held across Italy on the same day, each organised independently by local volunteer groups and communities. It brings together thousands of visitors every year: enthusiasts, developers, educators, students, and advocates of open source technology.

Attendance is always free and open to everyone.

20% Discount on LPI Certifications

Linux Day Italia 2026 participants receive a 20% discount on LPI certification exams. The discount can be requested between Saturday 24 and Monday 26 October 2026, inclusive. Ask your local event organisers for details on how to claim it.

Each purchase produces a voucher valid for one year, to be used for one exam of the candidate’s choice.

LPI Voices Across Italy

Several speakers from the LPI community take part in local Linux Day events this year.

At Linux Day Arona, hosted by JetLUG, Marco Colombo presents the Italian edition of the LPI Web Development Essentials book, which he authored. As every year, a dedicated discount is active on both the Italian and the English editions for the occasion.

At Linux Day Palermo, organised by Free Circle around the theme of Digital Sovereignty and Cybersecurity, Simone Davide “Simo” Bertulli gives a talk titled “Sovranità digitale: dipendenza tecnologica o libertà?” (Digital Sovereignty: Technological Dependence or Freedom?). A Cyber Security Expert, Linux Enterprise Specialist and recurring LPI author, Bertulli examines how lock-in, loss of in-house skills, poor interoperability and hard-to-replace dependencies turn into real risk factors for individuals and organisations alike, and what role Linux, free software, open standards and internal skills development can play in building more autonomous and resilient ecosystems.

In the run-up to Linux Day, on 14 October the Sapienza University of Rome hosts “Sovranità Digitale: Etica, Sostenibilità e Indipendenza nel Software Libero”, organised with Sapienza Students Network. The programme includes Moreno Razzoli (morrolinux), LPI blogger, on self-hosting and self-managed alternatives to proprietary cloud services, alongside talks on extending the life of older hardware with Linux and on contributing to large international free software communities. Attendance is free with registration.

What to Expect

Each local event sets its own programme. Across the country, Linux Day typically features:

  • Talks and workshops
  • Practical demonstrations and technical assistance
  • Debates and community discussions
  • Gadgets and the chance to meet the community in person

Find Your Local Event

Locations for the 2026 edition are announced from September on the official Linux Day website. If your area is not covered yet, the ILS encourages communities to organise their own event: the site provides a full guide for new organisers.

LPI as Media Partner

As Media Partner, LPI supports Linux Day Italia 2026 through dedicated online coverage and social media promotion across its global channels. This partnership reflects LPI’s long-standing relationship with the Italian free software community and its commitment to open source education across Europe.

Federated with Software Freedom Day

Since 2025, when LPI brought the two communities together, Linux Day Italia has been federated with Software Freedom Day, the worldwide celebration of Free and Open Source Software organised by the Digital Freedom Foundation. The federation continues in 2026.

In practice, Italian Linux Day events are published on the global Software Freedom Day map, making a local gathering anywhere in Italy visible to the international free software community. On the Linux Day website, Software Freedom Day and Linux Professional Institute are listed side by side as international non-profit partners.
