Jon “maddog” Hall, who celebrates fifty years in programming, computer manufacturing, education and consulting, will translate his vision with practical examples of how Free and Open Source Software and Hardware (FOSSH) helps students learn and better retain in all kinds of education and research.

Throughout this talk, Jon will talk about the differences between proprietary technologies, Closed Source and Open Source technologies. He will show us how the latter not only teaches students how to use technology to solve problems, but also how these technologies work and help to collaborate in making solutions better and providing benefits to the entire community.
